The Trusted Bookeeper
By Editor on 30th October 2009An assistant bookkeeper - an older woman who had turned into a bit of a mother figure in a contractor's office - was put in charge of all of the firm's accounting work after three years working there. She handled it with minimal oversight for two-and-a-half years, until management discovered that she had been forging $180,000 in cheques. Even though most of the money was eventually recovered, the case is still being fought in court, and the legal fees have severely weakened the company.
Today, all banking matters cross the chief executive officer's desk before anyone else's - sealed.
