Pat Murphy decided to branch off from his family's heating and air-conditioning business and start his own. But Murphy was often disappointed by the quality of the workers he had hired, and ended up firing many of them. He was often left to do the work by himself, and eventually recruited his wife to do accounting. Murphy shrank the company from 12 employees to 2 and couldn't support the company with the debt load he had acquired as a 12-person company. The company survived but he struggled to repay the debt.
